Caleb Doerr - September Aggie of the Month

Curtis,Neb. - Many farm kids around the state of Nebraska venture to larger cities to pursue their higher education.  Many students adjust to living in a city that is 4 or 5 times larger than their hometowns.  Caleb Doerr was no exception to this, but coming from a town of 179 people and moving to a college town of 832, there isn’t much of an adjustment.  That is just what Doerr was looking for in a college.

“I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere here at NCTA,” said Doerr.  He decided to move across the state to major in Agriculture Production with an emphasis in Diversified Agriculture.  His studies have paid off and the native from Brunswick, Neb. is being recognized by the faculty as the September “Aggie of the Month.”  “Caleb is very dependable, hard working, pleasant, and easy to work with.”  “He’s also a very dedicated student and we are proud to have him in the APS program,” said one faculty member.  Doerr’s ambitions include returning home to the farm which produces corn, soybeans, and hay.  “I want to utilize the different aspects I have learned from production to marketing,” he said.  Doerr mentioned that his favorite class is Risk Management because the information is all new to him, and he could use that knowledge on his own farm.

Doerr has to balance his studies with his part-time job as security for the Men’s Dormitory.  Outside of that, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his friends.  Students who receive this award are evaluated at the end of the academic year, and one student is chosen as the “Aggie of the Year.”  For more information regarding the “Aggie of the Month” program, please call 1-800-3CURTIS.
