Collegiate Cattlemen Attend Banquet

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Collegiate Cattlemen’s Club attended the Nebraska Cattlemen and Cattle Women’s Annual Convention and trade show in Lincoln, Neb.
The students attended many council meetings that addressed different issues involving today’s cattle market: Cow/Calf, Farmer Stockman Feedlot, Seedstock, Animal Health and Nutrition, Brand, Education, Marketing and Commerce, Natural Resources and Environment, and Taxation.
The students also attended the annual banquet with featured speakers, Clayton Yeutter, Counsel to Hogan & Hartson, LLD, one of the nation’s largest law firms, Rick Husted, an Executive Director to Market Research for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association before being named Chief Operating Officer, and Mike John, President of NCBA and Manager of John Ranch, Inc., a commercial cow-calf growing and retained ownership operation in Huntsville, Missouri. He has also been director of MFA Health Track Beef Alliance in Columbia, a feeder cattle source and process verification program. Governor Dave Heinemann, a Nebraska native and Wendy Pettz, the 2006 American National Cattle Woman, president-elect were also speakers.
NCTA Collegiate Cattlemen have been raising money for the trip to Lincoln by cleaning saddles, asking for donations from local farmers, ranchers, and feedlots, and hosting fundraisers such as a formal dance and chili cook-off.
Club officers are: Martin Benes of Valparaiso, Neb., President; Laura Mack of Harrison, Neb., Vice President; Cheryl Walker of Alliance, Neb., Secretary; Jason Nelson of Formoso, Kan., Treasurer; and Ryan Large of Hayes Center, Neb., Reporter. Wranglers include: Aaron Bond of Lodgepole, Neb., Ben Schmeidler of Victoria, Kan., Aaron Hamilton of Falls City, Neb., and Tyler Schmidt of Beatrice, Neb.
