5th Annual Cream of the Crop Sale Results

Curtis, Ne, April 17, 2007:  Friday, April 13, turned out to be a lucky day for many of the exhibitors at this year's 5th Annual Cream of the Crop Pig/Lamb Sale at NCTA in Curtis, NE.  54 lots were shown, bringing in a sale total of $13,932.

There were 34 lots of pigs shown, bringing in a total of $8,380.  The high-selling pig was consigned by Mike Hines of Morse Bluff, Nebraska, and sold to Brett Wood of Maywood, NE, for $450.  Hines also consigned the second highest selling pig, which was sold to Lucas Drake of Cheyenne, WY, for $425.

In the sheep category, 20 lots were shown for a total of $4,552.  Bobinmeyer Club Lambs consigned the high selling lamb, which sold to Brendon Hauxwell of McCook, NE, for $500.  Kubicek Club Lambs had the second highest selling lamb and sold it to Amber Siekman of Bertrand, NE, for $425.

One of the highlights of this year's event included the sale of a benefit heifer produced at NCTA to Craig Talkington of Hays, KS, for $1,000.  These funds will be used to benefit the Agricultural Production Systems class at NCTA.

Seth Hasenauer, Livestock Sales Class Advisor, was pleased with the outcome of the sale, which averaged a sale price of over $225 per animal.  He stated, "The sale is a great way to bring kids on campus and expose them to the breadth of programs NCTA has to offer."

Hasenauer wanted to remind exhibitors that animals sold in this year's Cream of the Crop event are eligible to show in the Last Chance Jackpot futurity on June 23-24, 2007, where they will be eligible for cash prizes.
