Equine Expert Helps Students Prepare for Sale

Stauffer, the former head of the equine program at the Ohio State University for ten years and head of the equine program at Findlay College for two years, demonstrated the best techniques for preparing horses for sale.  He helped students understand how to accentuate the positive aspects in an individual horse by emphasizing an "eye of the buyer" approach. Topics covered include nutrition, exercise, training, hoof care, grooming, and safe restraint of the animal.

Students in NCTA's Equine Practicums and Livestock Marketing classes will continue to practice what they learned by preparing the school's horses as if they were to be shown or sold at auction. The students also are preparing to assist with the "Last Chance Bull and Horse Sale" to be held at NCTA on April 18th. As practice for the event, Stauffer asked students to help preparing for sale three of the school's horses and two horses belonging to NCTA professor Jo Bek.

NCTA Assistant Professor Judy Bowmaster was enthusiastic about the clinic's results: "Gary was really able to give the students practical tips for preparing a horse based on the individual animal's characteristics."  For more information on NCTA's upcoming bull and horse sale, please call 1-800-3CURTIS.
