Go-Light Provides Encouragement to NCTA Students
Curtis, NE (September 23, 2008) NCTA continues to emphasize entrepreneurship throughout the campus. Jerry Gohl, President of Go-Light Industries in Culbertson, NE, gave a presentation to the business and technical writing class Monday, September 22, 2008. Gohl spent time discussing the Go-Light products from initial idea to complete conception, noting how the first prototype was made from papier mache.
Students from the class were especially interested in the fact that Gohl developed his idea while calving in a winter storm. Matt Wiiest, of Curtis, NE, was surprised and pleased to find that the product was actually developed in southwest Nebraska. "I'm from a small town; he gave me hope of going on to pursue my dreams." Wiiest noted that he's worked with Go-Light products before, but never realized where they originated. A test product was available for students to examine during the presentation.
Gohl also expressed his pride in employing local people, saying they are the strength of his company. As NCTA works to prepare students as entrepreneurs in rural areas, it is vital that students see how it is possible to be successful in a small town. Myranda Park, also of Curtis, NE, plans to own her own business someday. She found the entrepreneurial aspect interesting. "He gave us a better understanding of how to be successful within entrepreneurship." NCTA students were able to get a firsthand glimpse of success in a small town and see that great ideas can be born in the midst of a Nebraska snowstorm.
