100 Beef Cow Ownership Advantage

Outreach Program 100-Beef-Cow-Ownership-Adva.gif

Many people have dreams of building their own cow/calf operation.  Numerous ranch families need a plan of action on how to transfer ownership of cattle from one generation to the next.  Some cattle producers are looking for a young individual to help manage their operation.  The 100 Beef Cow Ownership Advantage is a program that addresses these needs while preparing our next generation of cow/calf producers.

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis developed this new program, so traditional students can receive an education in livestock management and have ownership of cattle after they graduate.

What about individuals who have already graduated from college?  What about people who are already working on a ranch or within the industry?  The 100 Beef Cow Ownership Advantage Outreach program is the answer.

The outreach program was designed to help individuals interested in preparing to own a beef cattle operation while receiving instruction on a part-time basis.  The outreach program involves four components:  the Farm & Ranch Management Course, the Nebraska Ranch Practicum, the Nebraska EDGE Program, and the NCTA Cow/Calf College.  Upon completion of the outreach program, participants will have received the latest research-based information in beef cattle production, developed a business plan and loan application for the USDA Farm Service Agency loan, and created a partnership agreement with a current producer.

Interest rates are at an all time low, so now may be the perfect opportunity to borrow from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and build your cow/calf operation.  Currently, the FSA is lending up to $300,000 for 10 years at a low 2.0% interest rate!  We encourage you to contact your local FSA office for further details.
