NCTA Aggies place at UNL Husker rodeo

LINCOLN, Neb. – Aggie Rodeo from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis ended the Easter weekend with counterparts at the University of Nebraska Lincoln having four athletes in the top ten.
The UNL Husker team hosted 12 schools from the Great Plains Region on Friday and Saturday at the Lancaster Events Center in Lincoln.
For the NCTA Aggies, Lexus Kelsch of McLaughlin, S.D., went into the final round of barrel racing on Saturday sitting in second place but prevailed with her horse, Tigger, in a final run of 15.18 seconds to win first place in the average.
The agribusiness major continues her lead in barrel racing for the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
Trevor Ginkens of Harrison, Nebraska, finished 9th in the tie down calf roping.
Tom Percival of Oxford, header, and Trey Baum of Elgin, heeler, finished 9th place in the team roping.
The team traveled with nine student athletes for their second rodeo of the spring season.
Other Aggie competitors were Erica Mowery of Middleburg, Pennsylvania, and Morgan Schrank of Canton, S.D., barrel racing; and Tara Spatz, Trotwood, Ohio, breakaway roping and barrel racing; Cash Talamantez of Oshkosh in tie down roping and team roping, and Nate Letcher of Hay Springs in team roping.
The next rodeo action is April 21-22 in Spearfish, S.D., where the host is Black Hills State University.
“The team did well, and I can see improvement each week,” said Coach Taylor Rossenbach. “We are looking forward to Spearfish this next weekend.”
