Curtis, Neb. – One of the most important steps a college-bound student can take each winter or spring is to visit college campuses.

The Nebraska College of Technical College in Curtis will host “Discovery Day” on Monday, March 7 as an opportunity for high school students and their families to tour and learn about academic programs, said Tina Smith, NCTA admissions and recruiting coordinator.

“We are excited to host over 100 guests at our upcoming Discovery Day and invite students to preregister by Thursday afternoon to ensure a spot,” Smith said.

Discovery Day is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes a noon lunch for those who pre-register at http://ncta.unl.edu/campus-culture.

High school students, transfer students from other colleges, and non-traditional students seeking college instruction are encouraged to attend.

Discovery Day allows students to explore campus in a more intimate setting, Smith says. Activities might include viewing x-rays in Vet Tech, learning to identify grains or seeds in the Agronomy Department, practicing safe handling procedures in Animal Science, or learning how to secure business or operating loans in the Ag Business Department.

“This day is sure to help answer all college questions,” Smith adds. “We will take tours of our residence halls, meet with students who will help explain campus life and campus organizations, as well as enjoy a lunch catered just to our participants.”

Students who enroll in courses for Fall, 2016, are eligible for prizes, including a drawing for an iPad, Smith said.

Additional information is available at ncta.unl.edu.  NCTA is an open enrollment, nationally accredited institution, and is part of the University of Nebraska statewide system.  NCTA Dean Ron Rosati will be available at Discovery Day, Smith added.

“We invite students and their families to join us for a couple of hours on Monday, and prepare for their college career.”
