NCTA Ranch Horse Team rides at Rockies

Fort Collins, Colo. – The NCTA Ranch Horse Team had 11 competitive riders last weekend at the Silver Jubilee stock horse show with students vying in collegiate and open divisions.

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture team gained riders, student assistants helping the team, and experience in the out-of-state event. Colorado State University hosted 140 riders to their multi-level contest.

NCTA coach Joanna Hergenreder said the Aggies opened with an exciting first day in the Pro and Limited Non Pro divisions:

-          Drake Johnson, Thurston, Neb., Smart War was 3rd High Overall in the Collegiate Non Pro.

-          Hanna Christenson, Burwell, Neb., and Ima Squall placed 5th in the Open Non Pro Reining.

-          Rio McGinley, Oshkosh, Neb., and Sally finished 5th in Collegiate Non Pro Trail.

-          Morgan Schrank, Canton, S.D., and Lil Paddy Spice won Collegiate Ltd Non Pro Pleasure.

-          Makayla Forsythe, Garland, Neb., and Four Sieto Gill won the Collegiate Ltd Non Pro Trail, and placed 3rd in Cow Work and 5th overall the Collegiate Ltd Non Pro division

Hergenreder said the second-day highlight for the NCTA Aggies was three new riders and one filly competing in their first collegiate contest.

-          From 30 Novice Division exhibitors, Whitney Gimpel, New Underwood, S.D., and Clutch were 9th in Cow Work, 10th in Trail and 12th in Pleasure.

-          Kortney Monheiser of Hershey, Neb., and Tushka partnered for 11th in Pleasure, 11th in Trail, and 19th in Cow Work.

-          Baily Holt, Bassett, Neb., piloted Maderas Player through their first show and finished 9th in Trail and 13th in Working Cow.

-          Courtney Leach, Lewellan, Neb., rode Straight Chexy Doc for 20th in Pleasure.

-          Also, in their first show, Carly Wade of Monroe, Maine, and Justa Pretty Rooster (Chic) finished 9th in Trail Class.

-          Jessa Lemon of Curtis, Neb., piloted Lady Stingray Dun It in the Green Horse Non Pro Division for the mare's very first show.

“I am beyond proud of this team!” said an elated coach Hergenreder. “They have made phenomenal progress and, evident by this show, have had their best start to the collegiate season in team history.”

Upcoming Aggie equine events are the Sherman Tegtmeier Reining and Horsemanship Clinic Oct. 22-23 in Curtis, and the Aaron Ralston Horsemanship and Ranch Horse Clinic Nov. 11-13, also at the NCTA Indoor Arena.

The Aggies will compete next at the Region 5 Championships of the American Stock Horse Association Dec. 2-4 at Loveland, Colo.
