Veterinary Technology Systems Mission Statement

The Veterinary Technology Systems major supports the college mission by striving to develop students into competent citizens through the hands-on skills and academic background needed to accept career opportunities the veterinary science fields and promote involvement, innovation, and individuality in the industry. Graduates of this major gain technical knowledge and expertise necessary for success in veterinary field and obtain the necessary skills for lifelong learning and community leadership.

Student Input into the Assessment

  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will implement university policy by each student evaluating every course by the students enrolled. Evaluations will be reviewed by the Dean and Department Head each semester to ensure course relevance and competence.
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will conduct exit surveys of graduating students and immediately review results
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will conduct surveys of alumni every five years to review student feedback, alumni success, and curriculum review.

Curriculum Assessment

  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will make recommendations and seek and document input from faculty and students on a regular basis regarding programs in the department.
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will monitor programs at peer institutions and liaison with the University of Nebraska that offer related coursework on an annual basis.
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will adjust curriculum based on industry, market, or best practice trends to meet evolving horticulture standards.

Student Performance Assessment

  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will measure and document the success rates of graduates and transfer students. Acceptance into four year programs will be closely monitored.
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department's Veterinary Technology graduates will sit for the Veterinary Technician National Licensing Exam (VTNE) and become a licensed Veterinary Technicians.

Industry Assessment

  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will survey and document employers who hire NCTA graduates at approximately three year intervals.
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will participate in Advisory Board conferences and seek out employer participation in the NCTA Agribusiness Management Systems Program
  • The Veterinary Technology Systems Department will visit and document regional employers to assess and survey program outcomes and reputation.
