Position Title: East Lot Assistant (Horse Position)

Job Description/Duties:
- Assisting with pen checking and the processing/sorting of incoming and outgoing cattle.
- Detecting sick or injured cattle in assigned pens and ensuring cattle health practices and procedures.
- Administering vaccines, implants, castrations, tags, topicals, and metaphylactics according to protocols and procedures.
- Collecting and inputting cattle sorting data into the internal computer system.
- Assisting with the unloading/loading of incoming and outgoing cattle.
- Following animal welfare protocols and safety guidelines when in cattle handling areas and facilities.
- Maintaining and repairing feedlot fences, steel structures, and other feedlot infrastructures that sustain optimum cattle welfare and containment.
- Operating equipment to maintain and repair feedlot pens, in addition to removing snow when necessary.
- Assisting in all aspects of the feeding and mill areas, including operating equipment, using the computer feeding system, loading ingredients, and managing commodities.
- Ensuring the facilities (e.g. shop, processing barn, mobile hospital, mill) are being maintained and cleaned, so they may be in a good operating condition.
*Compensation includes $425 per month in horse pay.
*Eligible for up to a $1000 Hiring Bonus.
Qualifications or Skills Required:
Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:
- Strong interest and/or background in the cattle industry.
- Intermediate to advanced horsemanship skills.
- Knowledge of sick or injured cattle.
- Beef Quality Assurance experience.
- Commitment to safety and quality culture.
- Excellent verbal communication.
- Individual must be team-oriented.
- High attention to detail.
This position requires:
- Individual must provide, shoe, and maintain two (2) or three (3) head of horses and pass ADAMS pre-employment horse evaluation tests.
- Individual must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, if needed.
- Exerting 25-100 pounds of force frequently; 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Standing, sitting, and walking continuously; carrying, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, climbing, reaching/handling/grasping, and kneeling/crouching frequently; crawling and stairs occasionally.
