Job Description/Duties: We are looking for an intern to work on a commercial cattle ranch this summer. The work experience gained would consist of working with the cow herd, sorting and moving cattle to summer pastures, synchronizing and A.I.ing our replacement heifers, cutting and raking hay, stacking bales, checking water for cattle, fencing and monitoring pastures for a rotational grazing program.
Qualifications or Skills Required:
Some knowledge of cattle and horses, along with operation of machinery would be helpful.
The ranch is located in northwest Nebraska. We run about 650 cow/calf pairs, 250 yearling replacement heifers and have 1000 acres of dry land alfalfa and hay to harvest.
We are 12 miles from a town with a population of 5000, which has most amenities. We are about a one-hour drive from the Black Hills of South Dakota, which has a lot of interesting sites to visit. Rapid City, South Dakota, with a population of about 7500, is about 2 hours away.
Salary & Benefits: Wages would depend on experience. Housing can be provided.
