Position Title:  Seasonal Equipment Operator

Position Type:  Temporary Full-Time

Job Description/Duties:

Adams Land and Cattle is seeking self-motivated individuals to temporarily assist at our South and East Feedlots in Broken Bow, Nebraska. These positions would primarily operate water trucks and maintain various pieces of equipment and facilities on the lot.

This person will be responsible for:

  • Working effectively in a team environment to complete the necessary daily tasks.
  • Operating large articulating trucks with a water truck configuration in a safe manner.
  • Operating other general equipment, such as tractors, skid steers, and dump trucks to perform various duties that may include: mowing of lot/fields/roads/drainways/ponds, weed spraying, or supporting pen maintenance activities.
  • Supporting the maintenance of transitional housing properties with lawn mowing as needed.
  • Entering and exiting equipment routinely throughout the day to fill water trucks, clean equipment, and open and close gates.
  • Working in a wet environment associated with water sprinkling operations.
  • Performing basic preventative maintenance and upkeep on equipment and facilities, including greasing, washing, and/or changing fluids/filters, in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring safety is the priority by reporting safety incidents to the designated supervisor for reporting and assisting with any follow-up.
  • Being acutely aware of property damage goals and expectations, in addition to exercising caution around individuals on horseback and in confined spaces.
  • Recognizing that weather conditions may require constant change in activities and that cattle comfort is first and foremost regarding this activity.

Qualifications or skills Required: 

Ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Mechanically inclined with working knowledge of large diesel powered equipment.
  • Demonstration of skills, knowledge, and experience in operating large equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and operate multiple pieces of equipment to support the team.
  • Proficient in routine and preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Must work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to safety and quality culture.


This position requires:

  • Exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally; 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Sitting, twisting, and reaching/handling/grasping frequently; standing, walking, carrying, lifting/lowering, pushing/pulling, bending, climbing, stairs, and kneeling/crouching occasionally; crawling rarely.
  • Driving a vehicle or piece of equipment up to 95% of the day.
