North Platte, Neb. – The NCTA Aggie Shooting Team won first among 2-year colleges last weekend at the Prairie Circuit Classic in North Platte.

"There were 101 shooters at this meet,” said Alan Taylor, Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture coach. “Considering what a young team we have, I’m very pleased with how well the students shot.”

Midland University of Fremont, Neb., won overall.

In the first collegiate match of the NCTA season, high overall Aggie shooters were Alan Rooney, Brewster;  Thomas Hennig, Tekamah; and Allen Matejka, Loomis.

“Shooting double trap and double skeet proved to be a learning experience,” Taylor said.  “Everyone had a good time and I am confident we will continue to improve.”

The NCTA Aggies have 15 students in the club, with 11 attending this competition. Each student shoots 100 targets per event in trap, skeet or sporting clays. Some competitions include international skeet, 5-stand sporting clay, double skeet or double trap.

NCTA has five matches this season with the next Oct. 15-16 in Grand Island for the Hastings College Bronco Invitational. A public trap shoot in Curtis will be Nov. 19 hosted by the NCTA Shooting Sports Team.
