Stock Dog Team gives students the opportunity to work with and train their own stock dog. Open to any student on campus. Participants practice twice weekly, on campus with their dogs. We host and compete in cattle dog trials, in conjunction with the region’s Outback Stock Dog Association. Our competition team has competed previously at the Nebraska State Fair and National Western Stock Show.

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE:
- Full time NCTA student, enrolled in the Stock Dog l or Stock Dog ll course
- Students must provide their own dog to participate
- Attend practice twice weekly
- Attend weekly meetings and classroom sessions
- Attend and work at cattle dog trials
DOG REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 8 months or older
- Have basic obedience training
- Must be a herding breed
- Provide proof of vaccinations
- Approved by coach
DOG HOUSING:
The Stock Dog Team has 8 kennels spots on campus available for team members to house their dogs for a monthly fee. Team members wishing to house their dogs in the kennels must complete an application process. Applications are handed out at the Stock Dog informational meeting, held during the first week of classes.
Once the kennels fill up, it is the responsibility of the student to secure housing for their dog.
TRIALS:
We host trials on campus and in Stockville (10 miles south of Curtis) throughout the academic year. This is done through the Outback Stock Dog Association. We have also traveled to away trials as well.

PRACTICE:
We have stock dog practice twice weekly over a 3-hour block of time. You will be assigned a practice time based on you available during that 3-hour block of time. We have sheep, goats, and cattle available to work during practice.
