North Platte Feeders

Tour a large beef cattle feedlot south of North Platte.  Travel south on Highway 83 about 17 miles to 2800 E Echo School Rd, Wellfleet, NE 69170 (map link).  Meet Dr. Elizabeth Fraser, NCTA Veterinary Technology faculty member, for a 1-hour tour of the facility.  Each tour will have a 12-person maximum.  To register, email Dr. Fraser at efraser3@unl.edu

Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District

Tour the largest water storage and diversion project in Nebraska that includes Nebraska’s largest reservoir, 5 hydro-electric facilities, over 500 miles of canals/laterals, and irrigation water for over 110,000 acres.  Completed in 1943.  To register for one of the tours below, contact Jeff Buettner jbuettner@cnppid.com

  • Tour Option 1 – Travel 50 miles west on I-80 to Ogallala and 8 miles north to the Lake McConaughy Visitors Center and Water Interpretive Center (1475 NE Hwy 61 N., Ogallala, NE 69153).  Meet with Nate Nielson, Kingsley Dam Foreman, for a 2-hour tour of the visit center, Kingsley Dam, and hydro plant.

Available tours:  March 31 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm (20 person maximum each)

  • Tour Option 2 – Meet Jeff Buettner, CNPPID Government and Public Relations Manager, at the D&N Event Center in North Platte.  Jeff will lead a 2-hour tour of the canal diversion dam on the Platte River and the hydro-plant at Jeffrey Reservoir.  Schools will use their own vehicles with total travel distance at about 70 miles.
