This week’s Aggie Club Highlight comes to us from Taylor Hendrix, secretary of Collegiate 4-H and FFA.

What is Collegiate 4-H and FFA, and who are the members? How many members do you have?

NCTA’s Collegiate FFA/4-H is a combined organization that allows students to develop their leadership skills through service to high school clubs and chapters. We have the opportunity to participate in local projects, professional growth, and travel opportunities. Along with this, we continue student interest in 4-H and FFA and expand leadership skills by helping local clubs or chapters, assisting at county fair, and attending regional meetings. We have about 20 members, and all NCTA students are welcome to join.

When and where does the club meet?

Our club meets every other Monday in the Livestock Teaching Center at 5:30 P.M.

Who are the student leaders/ officers?

Emily Grote is the president, Gillian Brinker is the vice president, Taylor Hendrix is the secretary, and Taylor Sayer is the treasurer of Collegiate 4-H/FFA Club.

Describe some of the activities and what they entail – service, education, fundraising, etc.

We help with any on-campus high school level FFA or 4-H events. A few of us are working on putting together a movie night, apparel sale, campus dance, and potentially putting on a prospect livestock show next semester.

Who is the club sponsor?

Dr. Douglas Smith is associate professor of Animal Science and Agricultural Education at NCTA.

What is a highlight of your club participation?

Unfortunately, most of the scheduled FFA events in the spring semester were canceled because of COVID, but the one I got to help with, I had the honor of being a judge for extemporaneous speaking.

How do students become a member of Collegiate 4-H/FFA, or who can they contact with questions?

Students can attend any of our meetings, speak with an officer or Dr. Smith for information.
