The Shotgun Sports Team is currently in the midst of their fall season and this week’s Aggie Club Highlight comes to us from Colby Mitchell, president of the Shotgun Sports Club.

What is Shotgun Sports Club, and who are the members? How many members do you have?

Shotgun Sports is a club where people have the opportunity to come shoot, and also the chance to compete. We have 11 members so far.

When and where does the club meet?

The club usually meets in the evenings at the Curtis Gun Club range by the airport east of town. We have very flexible meeting dates and times and try to work around all our team members’ schedules.

Who are the student leaders / officers?

Colby Mitchell is the president of Shotgun Sports, Austin Youngquist serves as vice president, secretary is Kaden Bryant, and our treasurer is Cooper Mazza.

Describe some of the activities and what they entail – contests, service, education, fundraising, etc.?

We usually go to about six to eight contests in the fall, and five in the spring. We hold one of the fall contests in North Platte, and we usually do two fundraisers throughout the year.

Your team’s Clay Match Fundraiser is coming up on Saturday (Nov. 7).  Explain the event and provide the details people need to know to attend.

The Clay Match is a sporting clays shoot open to the public. It raises funds for supplies and travel costs for contests. The sporting clays course is a 50-rock course. The first squad goes out at 9 A.M. and last squad goes out at 4 P.M.  Registration is that day. Spectators are invited to come and meet the team.

Who are the staff sponsors?

Alan Taylor is the Shotgun Sports coach.

What is a highlight of your club participation?

My biggest highlight was winning the Colorado State University fall match in Colorado last year. So far, this year's highlight has been pulling second in super sporting clays and winning my shoot off to break a tie at Concordia University’s match.

How do students become a member of Shotgun Sports and how can they contact with questions?

If interested in joining the Shotgun Sports Team, a student needs to add the shooting course when registering for classes. Coach will notify you of the first meeting to discuss the class and what is expected. For more details on the class or the team, contact the president or Coach Taylor.
