CURTIS, Neb. – The collegiate team for shotgun sports at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis will open its season this weekend in Lincoln.

The match, hosted by Midland University of Fremont, is the 5th Annual Ice-Out Invitational on Sept. 20-22 hosted at Lincoln Trap & Skeet.

Aggies participating will be Trevor Kuhn, Omaha; David Jelken, Hastings; Tucker Hodsden, Lyman; Colby Mitchell, Burwell; and Scott Taylor, Curtis.

All five are Nebraskans. Kuhn and Jelken are returning starters, both officers of the NCTA Aggie Shotgun Sports Team and competed last spring at the NCTA team’s inaugural national championships in Texas.

As a season warm-up and fundraiser in Curtis on Sept. 14, the Aggies hosted an open contest at the Curtis Gun Club.

Riley Anderson won a drawing among all entries for a Henry .22 rifle.  Tom Steele won a Browning knife-flashlight combo.  Both items were donated to the Aggie team to help raise funds for team supplies and travel.

“The fundraiser went very well,” said Aggie coach Alan Taylor.  “We had a good turnout and that helps our club.”

Winners were 1st flight NCTA student David Jelken, Hastings, score of 41; 2nd flight Warren Donner, North Platte; 3rd flight Brian Jelken, Hastings; and 4th flight Sheri Hartley, Maywood.

Next week, on Sept. 27-29, the Aggies will host the Prairie Circuit Conference match at Lincoln County Wildlife Gun Club.  Spectators are invited to attend.
