CURTIS, Neb. – The NCTA Aggie Shotgun Sports Team is headed to a national contest for the first time in school history.
The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture’s Aggie team leaves Curtis on Tuesday, and heads to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Targets Championships on March 27-30.
They are hoping for some better weather than experienced in their last two matches at Lincoln and Salina, Kansas, said coach, Alan Taylor.
In 2018, ACUI drew 809 college competitors from 85 colleges across the U.S.
“We are looking forward to competing at ACUI Nationals,” Taylor said. “The team will compete in American Trap and Skeet, International Trap and Skeet as well as Sporting Clay and Super Sporting Clay, totaling 600 targets over four days.”
Aggies participating will be Angela Crouse, Haigler; Kaylee Hostler, Central City; David Jelken, Juniata; Chase Stanley, Shickley, and Trevor Kuhn, Omaha.
They will compete in Division 4, which is for 2-year colleges and all colleges attending for the first time.
The Association of College Unions International is one of the oldest associations in higher education. It sponsors educational programs and intercollegiate competitions.
“We have a solid team and expect to compete well at San Antonio,” Taylor said.
NCTA sponsors a collegiate team which is open to any NCTA student. They are adding archery to the shooting team's offerings.
The team meets twice a week (weather permitting) at the Curtis Gun Club, located east of Curtis near the airport.
