CURTIS, Neb. – The Aggie Shotgun Sports Team opened its 2020 season over the weekend with five members traveling to Lincoln.

Coach Alan Taylor said the students from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis compete next on Saturday (March 14) at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.

Colby Mitchell of Burwell was high overall for the NCTA team with a total score of 349 out of 400 in sporting clays, skeet, trap and double trap events.

“Colby was only two clays short of breaking his personal best in the trap shooting,” Taylor said, breaking 96 of 100 clay targets.

Aggie teammates Trevor Kuhn of Omaha shot 295. Scott Taylor of Curtis was third at 286, achieving a personal best in trap with an 82 score.

Also competing for the Aggies were David Jelken of Hastings and Tucker Hodsden of Lyman.

The match was hosted by Doane College, based in Crete, Nebraska.

On March 23, the Aggies travel to San Antonio, Texas for the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships. Last year, the Aggies won fifth place in two-year colleges competing for the first time at ACUI.
