CURTIS, Neb. – The Aggie Collegiate Shooting Sports Team is looking forward to warmer weather for their next weekend of taking aim at clay targets.

The 2018 Pheasant Tune-up Sporting Clay Shoot this Saturday and Sunday north of Maywood should be at least 30 degrees warmer than what the team encountered Oct. 14 at Heartland Shooting Park near Grand Island.

Freezing temperatures on Sunday were described by Coach Alan Taylor as “cold and miserable, making shooting difficult.”

So the Aggie athletes from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture are prepared for a fun, yet competitive day on Oct. 20.

The team fundraiser is a “tune-up for pheasant season,” Taylor said. The public is invited.

Friendly competition will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Taylor’s Pasture, located 3.7 miles north of Maywood on Koester Road.  Lunch is available at the site.

Top scores in each flight will receive a Browning pocket knife and flashlight set. And, all scorecards will be entered into a drawing for an Orca brand insulated cooler.

Grand Island results

Match results from the Oct. 13-14 contest hosted by Hastings College saw several Aggie shooters making personal best performances.

Coach Alan Taylor reported, “Kaylee Rasmussen, Burwell, shot wonderfully in wobble trap and Kaylee Hostler, Central City, made it into the top five within NCTA, which included a personal best in double skeet.”

Jarrod Tuttle, Eltopia, Washington, had a personal best in trap and David Jelken, Juniata, scored a personal best in skeet.

Chase Stanley, Shickley, had high score for the NCTA men. Angela Crouse, Haigler, was high scorer for the NCTA women as well as highest overall score for the NCTA team.

This weekend, five NCTA athletes will be traveling to Brighton, Colorado to participate in the inaugural Colorado State University Shotgun Sports RamVitational.

Angela Crouse, Trevor Kuhn, Shawn Barger, Chase Stanley and David Jelken will represent NCTA while other club members and Coach Taylor will host the Pheasant Tune-up.
