For National FFA Week, February 20-26, we feature alumni of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture who are agriculture educators and advisors for FFA chapters.

They are among 12 UNSTA or NCTA graduates currently in classrooms and leading the 203 FFA chapters in Nebraska.

We appreciate their commitment and dedication to Nebraska youth and agriculture.

Meet Kayla Mues, native of Cambridge

Q:   Year of graduation from NCTA?

A:  December of 2019 (and Dec. 2021 from UNL)

Q:  What was a highlight for your 2-year program at NCTA in Curtis?

A:  Everything was my favorite at Curtis. A couple that stick out most was the ability to be so involved with everyone on campus. I was able to be a part of so many clubs and activities all while doing recruiting work in high schools and at career fairs. Nothing will beat the hands-on experiences that I honestly don’t think I would have gotten to experience anywhere else and that really set me up for success in and out of my classroom today.

Q:  Where did you student teach?

A:  Wallace High School with Mrs. Lisa Kemp

Q:  How long have you been at Dundy County Stratton?

A:  This is my second month, having started in January

Q:  What events are planned for FFA Week?

A:  We have the typical drive your tractor to school day on Monday. Wednesday we are holding a high school pickup judging contest with prizes going to the cleanest, dirtiest, oldest, newest, and fan favorite. On Thursday, because it is Career and Technical Education Month, we along with help from the FCCLA and FBLA we are holding a school faculty and staff appreciation breakfast. We will have dress up days throughout the week as well. The wrap up on Friday with students and myself going to the Mission and Impact Conference in Kearney hosted by the state.

Q:  Any other things to share?

A:  I’m just super excited to be back in person for State FFA Convention at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln (April 6-8) and that I get to take my own students along for the adventure that many haven’t seen.
