As one of two recently-hired assistant recruiters at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Andela Taylor is this week’s NCTA Staff Spotlight. Learn about her background and career highlights.

What are your roles and duties within the Aggie community?

Recruiting new and retaining current students is my mission. I will seek out every opportunity to connect and build relationships with students. I assist with marketing plans to strategically target students in the college’s specialized fields of study.

When did you begin at NCTA?

I am a rookie, and I just started in September of 2020.  It seems longer ago though since I first applied in January 2020, and then waited throughout the hiring freeze in anticipation and hope that I would be rewarded with the position. Patience is a virtue!

When/where was your previous employment in education?

This is my first employment in education, however, I experienced first-hand (as a parent of two children currently in college) the process of college research, admission and decision-making for students. I have experiences with marketing and hospitality from my work with my family’s business. As well, my community marketing and recruitment experience as the Executive Director for Cambridge Economic Development for ten years is valuable to my position at NCTA.

Describe a favorite memory or a highlight of your work at campus.

Assisting with on-campus group tours has been a great experience because it brings together prospective students, parents, faculty and staff, and our student ambassadors. Meeting our faculty and finding them very passionate about their work with students and serving the interests and goals of the current students individually, is a highlight. Our Aggie students are very friendly and willing to step up for the greater good of the campus.

Share a hobby or activity that you enjoy in your free time.

I love spending time with family, cooking, and listening to music. Doing all three at once is the best!
