NCTA application fee waived Oct. 1-18

Nebraska students who apply for admissions to University of Nebraska campuses including NCTA at Curtis from Oct. 1 through Oct. 18 can have the application fee waived, an incentive to expand interest by college-bound students.

The $45 fee will be waived for any Nebraskan completing the online, shared application to the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska at Kearney, or University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Both first-time freshmen and transfer students applying for admission for fall 2021 are eligible for the waiver. Students will apply at https://ncta.unl.edu/apply-now and should select “fee waiver” to enter the code “NUforNE” to have the $45 fee waived.

NU System President Ted Carter, who was in Curtis on Saturday for NCTA’s Class of 2020 graduate’s open house, announced the fee waiver as a step to encourage applications this fall, while college fairs are underway.

The initiative comes as students and their families begin college entrance preparations, including the EducationQuest Foundation’s Apply2College activities beginning this week. The 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) also starts Thursday.

“Affordable access is the highest priority of the University of Nebraska,” said Carter. “Especially during this challenging time, we’re doing everything we can to reduce potential barriers to education for students and families. Offering an application fee waiver is one more step we can take to support Nebraskans and further expand access – especially among low-income and first-generation students who have historically been underrepresented in higher education.”

At Curtis, NCTA offers on-campus tours and events such as Discovery Days on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and and again Nov. 10, said NCTA Dean Larry Gossen. To register, see https://ncta.unl.edu/discovery-days.

“We know that students and their parents look to NCTA for its affordable, high-quality, hands-on technical programs,” said Gossen.  “We are an open admissions campus that draws Aggie students from all parts of Nebraska and out-of-state, all at one tuition rate of $139 per hour, which is frozen through 2023.”

The application fee waiver from Oct. 1-18 is in conjunction with the Nebraska Promise, the new financial aid program that provides free tuition for Nebraska students with family incomes of $60,000 or less. Students must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for the Nebraska Promise.
