CURTIS, Neb. – Aggie students and their collegiate clubs and teams at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will be showcased in awards programs in Curtis on April 27 and May 3.

Aggie of the Year and many other NCTA Aggies will be honored in three events leading up to the 2017 NCTA Commencement on May 4, said Dean Ron Rosati.

The 2017 NCTA Belt Buckle awards ceremony, for students, staff and alumni, is free of charge and open to the public at the NCTA Nebraska Agriculture Industry Education Center at 5:00 p.m. on April 27. A reception will include light refreshments.

Afterward, Animal Science and Agricultural Education students, including those on the Ranch Horse Team, Livestock Judging Team and Aggie Rodeo, will be recognized at the 2017 Steak and Shake dinner and program at the Curtis Memorial Community Center.

The public is invited to attend, and tickets for the 6:30 p.m. meal and program are available by calling the NCTA Livestock Teaching Center at (308) 367-5293.

An induction ceremony for new members of the academic honorary Phi Theta Kappa will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 in the Nebraska Agriculture Industry Education Center auditorium.

Additional awards and recognitions are planned for students and academic teams in Agribusiness Management, Agronomy and Agricultural Mechanics (including Irrigation Technology), Horticulture, and Veterinary Technology divisions on May 3.

Students within these academic areas, specifically, along with the full student body and guests, will gather at the Ed Center for year-end awards at 7 p.m. on May 3, said Kevin Martin, student services advisor.

“Seeing and sharing the success of students is a nice way to end the year,” said Martin, who coordinates the annual awards night.

Special awards will include the Chandie Castle Memorial Scholarship, the Bruntz Family Award for Teaching, and the Aggie of the Year.

Graduation will be at 1:30 p.m. on May 4 at the Curtis Memorial Community Center.
