NCTA prof will judge at Goat Expo Oct. 13-14

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - Douglas Smith of Curtis will be among presenters this weekend at the 4S Goat Expo in North Platte.

The expo is Saturday and Sunday at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

Dr. Smith is chair of the animal science department and coach of the livestock judging team at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.

He will speak about breeding goat selection for flock improvement, and also serve as judge for the goat show and sale.

Sixty lots have been consigned to the sale, said Randy Saner, extension educator in Lincoln County. He expects 12 bucks and 48 does from three states.

The Saturday seminar at 10 a.m.  Shows begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, followed by the sale at 1 p.m.

Youth can participate in showmanship and goat judging contests, Saner said.
