NCTA Ranch Horse Team rides strong at Sterling

Sterling, Colo. – The Aggie Ranch Horse team concluded its Spring, 2016 season with a strong finish at the Northeastern Junior College Showdown in Sterling.

“This was a wonderful show and perfect way to end the collegiate season,” said NCTA Coach Joanna Hergenreder. Several of the students rode younger “green” horses as well as their regular season mounts and competed well.

The seven NCTA students, listed by town, horse, and categories are:

Hanna Christenson, Ord, riding NCTA’s Ima Squall, Collegiate Non Pro finished 7th in Trail, 7th in Pleasure, 8th in Cow Work, and 8th in Reining.

Drake Johnson, Thurston, on Smart War, Collegiate Non Pro was 7^th in Cow Work, 7^th in Reining, 8th in Trail and 8th in Pleasure. Johnson also competed in the Green Horse Non Pro class on a new colt, El Little Catnmouse, 3^rd in Cow Work, 7^th in Reining, 9th in Trail, and 9th in Pleasure.

Makayla Forsythe, Garland, rode NCTA’s own Four Sieto Gill in Collegiate Limited Non Pro, 5^th in Cow Work, 8^th Reining, 10^th Pleasure, and 12th in Trail.

Morgan Schrank, Sioux Falls, S.D., rode Lil Paddy Spice, Collegiate Limited Non Pro, 4th in Pleasure, 8th in Cow Work, 10^th in Trail, and 11th in Reining.

Clayton G’Schwind, Callaway, and MT Paddy’s Tonketta, Collegiate Limited Non Pro, 4^th in Cow Work, 6^th in Reining, 9^th in Pleasure, and 11th in Trail.

Mariah Stamper, Falls City, Smooth Honey Money, Collegiate Novice, 10th in Trail, 10th in Pleasure, 14^th in reining (of 27), and 18th in Cow Work.

Whitney Gimpel, New Underwood, S.D., SFR Ima True Badger, Collegiate Novice, 3^rd in Reining (out of 27), 6th in Pleasure, 8th in Cow Work, and 11^th in Trail.

Christensen, Johnson, Forsythe and Coach Hergenreder also rode in a pre-contest clinic with trainers Matt Koch and Darren Miller, professional trainers and title holders. They learned riding tips which improved their personal performances on Saturday and Sunday, Hergenreder said.
