NCTA Shotgun Sports competes at Midlands

LINCOLN – A returning athlete joined by four new teammates with the Aggie Shotgun Sports Team from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture competed over the weekend in a 10-college meet hosted by Midland University at the Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club.  

Aggie coach Alan Taylor said 130 students entered the contest of five events:  sporting clays, skeet, super skeet, double skeet, and trap shooting.

NCTA sophomore Colby Mitchell of Burwell led the Aggies with high overall team score of 363 points.

Kaden Bryant of Firth, and a graduate of Norris High School, is a newcomer to NCTA but not to shotgun sports.

“Kaden was outstanding, shooting a perfect 100 in trap,” said Taylor, in his sixth year at the team’s coach.  “This put him in a 5-way tie leading to a shoot-off where he took second.”

Trey Barnhart of McCook, Cooper Mazza of Potter, and Austin Youngquist of Auburn also are NCTA freshmen.

The NCTA Aggies will host the Prairie Circuit Conference match for college teams in clay targets this weekend at the Lincoln County Wildlife Gun Club, located near Lake Maloney south of North Platte.

Collegiate teams from Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, and North Dakota are in the Prairie Circuit Conference.
