Meet Kevin Martin, NCTA Staff Spotlight

A cornerstone of the Aggie Campus, Kevin Martin was a fitting choice for the final NCTA Staff Spotlight of the fall semester. Read more to learn about his role on campus and favorite pastimes.

What are your roles and duties within the Aggie community?

Well, I guess I am considered the “fire fighter” on campus.  If there is a problem or looks like one is starting, I’ll get a call to see if I can find a solution.  Officially though, I am the Student ADA-504 Coordinator/Advisor.  Working with students with disabilities, campus mental health issues, etc., and also as a liaison between all students and their department instructors and advisors.  I also talk to a lot of parents.

What drew you to education?

Athletics is probably what first drew me to education.  I have always enjoyed sports, coaching, and being around the people associated with it.

When did you begin at NCTA?

I came to NCTA 13 or 14 years ago.

When/where was your previous employment in education?

In the past, I taught grade school physical education, and fifth and sixth grade history.  I also coached at the junior college and high school levels.

What is your favorite memory or highlight of your work on campus?

I have many interesting memories, and I could write a book on what some of these kids have done over the years.

Share a hobby or activity that you enjoy in your free time.

Golf and guns, sometimes together, are two of my favorite hobbies. I also put in some time as a whiskey cook for the local distillery and call some high school basketball games on the radio.
