Educating students for careers in agriculture takes on many forms at NCTA, but increasingly they involve horses. Our Animal Science, Equine Industry Management, and Vet Tech degrees can lead to equine careers. Horse-loving students enjoy working on the Ranch Crew, caring for the campus herd, and competing on horse-centric Rodeo and Ranch Horse teams.

Esteemed Horsemanship Clinic held at the LTC Monday, November 28, 2022

CURTIS, Neb. (Nov. 21, 2022)

Students and equine enthusiasts were back in the saddle for the Sherman Tegtmeier Reining and Horsemanship Clinic held November 19-20 at the Livestock Teaching Center (LTC). For the past decade, Tegtmeier, a certified trainer with the National Reining Horse Association, has taught students and various area riders and observers here at NCTA in Curtis.

Attending were 16 NCTA Ranch Horse team members, 4 NCTA equine students, 2 youth riders, and 16 adult participants for a total of 38 clinic spots completed this weekend.

It’s our official Welcome to College Week for the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture!

We had a successful first day of classes on Monday, and by week’s end the shuffling of schedules and rearranging of courses and meeting locations will be complete.

A HUGE thank you to the Curtis community for sharing in the Welcome Picnic and our campus events to greet newcomers and returning Aggies.

Aggies ride at Palooza in the Pines Tuesday, May 17, 2022

The pair became college graduates in Nebraska on Thursday.  Stock horse contestants in Colorado on Saturday.

And, by Sunday, Jessica Burghardt and Connor Crumbliss had ended their college careers twofold.

First, in academics at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and second, as members of the NCTA Ranch Horse Team.

After graduating on May 5 from NCTA in Curtis, Burghardt and Crumbliss joined four teammates for a stock horse show called Palooza in the Pines at Elbert, Colorado.

Ranch horse team places fifth at Amarillo Monday, May 2, 2022

The Aggie Ranch Horse Team from NCTA in late April brought home a fifth place among college teams at national championships in Texas.

Eight Aggie students from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture competed at the Hughes Ranch Trailers Collegiate Ranch and Stock Horse National Championships in Amarillo.

They placed fifth among the Division I teams, said Animal Science Professor and Coach Jo Hergenreder.

Nationals are the pinnacle for the Ranch Horse Team athletes.

Hosts of the recent Punchy in Pink Spring Roundup in McCook rode away as collegiate champions of their annual ranch and stock horse contest.

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Ranch Horse Team won among four colleges.

Jo Hergenreder, NCTA professor and coach, deemed the 2022 Spring Roundup show a huge success.

"This year was as smoothly run as any we have hosted thus far, all in all due to the students’ efforts and all of our supporters such as Slidin Daze Enterprises and the AQHA,” Hergenreder said of two stock horse member entities.
