Winter challenges NCTA Aggies in sporting clays

LINCOLN, Neb. – A cold and windy weekend greeted the NCTA Aggie Shotgun Sports Team from Curtis as they competed in the Doane Tiger Invitational Shotgun Sports meet in Lincoln.

The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture’s Aggie team placed fourth in the Saturday and Sunday contest held at the Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club, home range for the Tigers.

Athletes represented teams from two-year and four-year colleges.

Five Aggies opened the 2019 season, with Trevor Kuhn, Omaha; Angela Crouse, Haigler; Kaylee Hostler, Central City; David Jelken, Juniata; and Chase Stanley, Shickley.

“Conditions on Saturday were less than stellar with wind in the afternoon and rain of and on throughout the morning,” said NCTA coach Alan Taylor.

“Sunday was sunny and cold, but thankfully there was little wind,” Taylor added. “The team shot well considering how little we have been able to practice due to weather at Curtis.”

Angela Crouse of Haigler led the Aggie team with high scores in sporting clay, trap and international skeet. Crouse, an NCTA veterinary technology major, is the Aggie team’s president.

“We are very proud of Angela being second high over all for the meet and winning the sporting clay women’s division,” Taylor said.

 Kaylee Hostler of Central City shot a personal best and had the high score in skeet for the Aggies.

The Aggies compete on March 16 at the Fort Hays State Invitational at Salina, Kansas.

Then, following the NCTA Spring Break, the team travels March 27-30 to San Antonio, Texas for the 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Targets Championships.

“I am looking forward to how we will compete at Fort Hays and nationals in San Antonio,” Taylor said.
