YMCA Camp Kitaki is an overnight camp seeking individuals who like working outdoors and being a positive role model for youth, and have experience working with horses to teach group riding lessons, instruct on general horsemanship, and provide care for our herd of 20 horses for the summer.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Living in a cabin with and lending leadership and guidance to a riding group.
-Maintaining a well-established barn, including cleanliness of barn and surrounding spaces.
-Daily feeding, grooming, saddling, and care for a herd of 20 horses.
-Providing leadership to educational and enrichment activities by planning, implementing and supervising curriculum and programs.
-Interacting and supervising youth and providing role modeling and mentoring through participation in activities and positive discussions.
-Communicating with parents/guardians to discuss achievements and concerns.
Applicants will be considered for all roles and opportunities will be further discussed during the interview process.
Live in summer position requiring extended hours on duty.
Applicants should have a background caring for, riding, or otherwise feeling comfortable and confident working with horses. YMCA Camp Kitaki will provide a pre-summer training, but background equestrian experience required.
Our staff work outdoors for extended hours in the Nebraska summer heat, and often lift over 50 lbs.
We require all staff to be CPR Certified prior to summer, and will provide on-site CPR Certification courses.
Staff are paid a weekly stipend of $500, with additional pay for certifications, years of experience, as well as financial incentives for weeks completed on staff.
As this is a live-in position, lodging and food is provided during programs. Summer lodging during off-time is optional, but offered to reduce travel and lodging costs.
