The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Examines meat to evaluate factors related to product quality.
Selects samples and meat products within specifications.
Explains evaluation determinations to plant management.
Prepares and issues certificates based on quality standards.
Assists supervisors with on-the-job training of meat graders and other employees.

Education and experience in food related fields, livestock production, classing or grading based upon quality attributes, Livestock Judging experience, 4H or FFA. Experience Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions, Plan and organize work., Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a team. 

This is a federal government position with the USDA and starts at a GS 5 ($39,576) or GS 7 ($49,025) based upon qualifications, with overtime paid for over 8 hours in a day, 10%-night shift differential, holiday pay and a hiring incentive of 25% of base salary. Health and life insurance, 401K program with a 5% match, paid vacation, sick leave, maternity and paternity leave (up to 12 weeks).
