Job Description
- The Veterinary Technician assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, euthanasia as well as customer education and inventory maintenance. Technicians may also see their own appointments for procedures such as suture removal, nail trim, anal gland treatment, vaccine administration when a doctor exam is not required, lab work, surgery admission and discharge. The Veterinary Technician operates under the supervision of the Owner.
Qualifications or Skills Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required. College or college-equivalent education (completed) as required in becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in South Dakota. 1-year previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
· Must feel and express a genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in the animal care field.
· Works independently on assigned tasks.
· Understands logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
· Exhibits strong problem solving and an organized approach.
· Ability to remain calm in the face of various types of stressful situations.
· Ability to foster positive work environment for colleagues and customers.
· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Must have telephone and computer skills, i.e. email, clinic computer program, Microsoft Word and Excel. (Training available)
· Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
· Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint
