Youth in the field navigate to new heights Wednesday, July 14, 2021

Use of drones for crop management and weed control was a highlight at the 5th Annual Agronomy Youth Field Day in Curtis.

Twenty youth and four adults gained new perspectives and knowledge both in the field and indoors at the soils laboratory of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

One of the most popular sessions for youth was out at the campus farm, where a drone flew over a field to assess crop health. Later, the older youth could pilot the drone through an obstacle course.

Agronomy Youth Field Day is July 7 at NCTA Tuesday, June 29, 2021

Youth can get a new perspective on crops grown in fields around Curtis on July 7 through the eyes of an aerial drone.

That will be just one of the highlights at the 5th annual Agronomy Youth Field Day sponsored by Nebraska Extension and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

Crop science topics at the NCTA campus and farm will also include weed control, planter technology, soil health, plant diseases and disease identification, and more.

Dean's Message

By NCTA Dean Larry Gossen, Ph.D.

We observe commencement Thursday for our Class of 2021 of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

In many regards, our academic programs have been full speed ahead with in-person classes throughout the fall and spring semester. However, this group of graduates saw some personal and college tests unlike any before seen by those passing under the Aggie arches near Ag Hall.

NCTA Dean's Message

An old football field at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture is a wonderful open, green space across from Agriculture Hall.

Looking out from the second- and third-floor classrooms and offices of Ag Hall, I can envision a venue which once hosted hundreds of football games, graduations, and public celebrations of the “Curtis Aggies.”

Celebrate National Agriculture Week!

We are fully engaged in ag production at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. Word from the calving pasture is we have three head left to calve. Bravo to the NCTA Beef Production Class ho have been on around-the-clock calving watch since February.

It’s quite busy at campus as students returned from Spring Break on Monday.  We are awaiting results of the ag mechanics department tests of advanced welding students for certification by the American Welding Society.

James Lee appreciates the leadership skills he gained as an FFA member at Sutherland High School.

Now, in his second semester as a college freshman in Curtis at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, the agribusiness major and former Sutherland Sailor is leading the Aggie student body.

He was elected vice president of NCTA Student Senate last fall when he attended the Senate’s organizational meeting, as a first-year representative of the NCTA Business Club.
