CURTIS, Neb. – Limited irrigation concerns may prompt crop producers to consider planting grain sorghum this year.

Agronomy students at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will join the region’s crop producers on January 18th to learn why grain sorghum is a viable crop for southwestern Nebraska.

Agronomy, agricultural mechanics and urban agriculture are areas featured this week in our four-part series about academic divisions at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

Brad Ramsdale is the chair of the Agronomy and Agricultural Mechanics Division of Agricultural Production Systems. Dr. Ramsdale also coaches the NCTA Crops Judging Team which won the 2017 National Championship among 2-year colleges.

A “sprayer clinic” for agricultural producers and herbicide applicators of field crops will be November 15 at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.

Agronomists and crop equipment companies will showcase the latest in crop sprayer technologies, along with discussions of safe and efficient use of the herbicide dicamba.

Manhattan, Kansas – The NCTA Aggies set the academic bar high for their peers in agriculture over the weekend.

Twenty students of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture returned to their Curtis campus from Manhattan, Kansas, bringing home the 2017 Reserve Champion Sweepstakes among two-year colleges.

They repeated as national champs in crops judging, and won team honors in precision agriculture and knowledge bowl.

Ames, Iowa – Agronomy students from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture captured team and the top four individual rankings in collegiate crops judging this weekend.

A foursome of NCTA sophomores won the Iowa State University Crops Judging Contest on Saturday, topping four other schools from 2-year colleges. The Aggies are repeat champions, also taking first place team in 2016.

Two agronomy majors have been tapped as Aggies of the Month at the University of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

Ross Steward, Littleton, Colo., and Amelia Petska, Blue Hill, Neb., were selected by faculty and staff as NCTA Aggies for April, announced Ron Rosati, NCTA dean.

“Ross and Amelia bring enthusiasm and a passion to campus for learning about crop science and careers in agronomy,” said Rosati. “Each contributes greatly to their respective competition teams in crops judging and rodeo team, and are outstanding representatives of NCTA’s Class of 2016.”

NCTA wins nationals in crops, ag computers Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Crookston, Minn. – The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture took 21 students to a national contest in Minnesota last week and garnered awards for their two-year college in Curtis.

Aggie teams won national titles in crops judging and agricultural computers, with second place in the always competitive livestock judging contest. NCTA teams earned third places in agribusiness management and dairy judging, with fourth-place teams in ag sales, horse judging and livestock management.
