NCTA plans for students, growth Tuesday, March 1, 2022

NCTA Dean’s Message by Larry Gossen, Ph.D.

When I officially started my first day as the new dean of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture on June 15, 2020, our nation’s higher education system faced great unknowns.

We knew, however, that NCTA at Curtis was the only campus in the University of Nebraska system operating with in-person classes that summer. Two dozen Veterinary Technician students and their instructors were ready for opening day, also on June 15.

Of cattle, camels, and college Thursday, January 20, 2022

NCTA Dean’s Message by Larry Gossen, Ph.D.

An array of interesting conversations can result when cattle and camels are used in the same sentence.

Our Aggie students expect to learn about the cattle industry when they enroll for animal science classes at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. But camels?

And, even more interesting a camel dairy?

Last week, NCTA had students majoring in animal science or agribusiness who traveled to Colorado for the National Western Stock Show.

Aggie studies reinforce FFA goals Thursday, September 9, 2021

By Mary Crawford, NCTA News

Throughout two decades of being around cats, dogs, horses, goats and cattle, Melody MacDonald is certain her future involves beef cattle and animal health care.

This fall, the Fullerton, Nebraska native has returned as a third-year student at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, studying veterinary technology with an emphasis in large animal health.

She will complete her courses in March, leave for an 8-week internship, and graduate in May with the class of ’22.

NCTA Dean’s Message by Larry Gossen, Ph.D.

Thank you, Curtis community, for the warm welcome to Aggies beginning their college careers at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture!

Students enjoyed the New Student Orientation weekend, becoming familiar with the community, businesses, churches, and the region’s recreational sites.

We are grateful to the Medicine Valley Chamber of Commerce for welcome packets. I appreciate representatives from community groups and the pastors of local churches who met and mingled at the Welcome Picnic last Sunday.

Dean's Message

May is National Beef Month, a time of recognizing beef cattle production and the healthy, nutritious product many of us consider a staple in our diet.

A tip of the cowboy hat to all cattle producers, families, and employees from all of us at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. We appreciate your dedication to the livestock industry.

At the NCTA farm, we have completed spring calving and branding, and are preparing to turn out the cow-calf pairs on to summer range.

Dean's Message

By NCTA Dean Larry Gossen, Ph.D.

We observe commencement Thursday for our Class of 2021 of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.

In many regards, our academic programs have been full speed ahead with in-person classes throughout the fall and spring semester. However, this group of graduates saw some personal and college tests unlike any before seen by those passing under the Aggie arches near Ag Hall.
