Job Description 

  • Key ResponsibilitiesNursing & Clinical CareTriaging Patients: Assess vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration) across a wide spectrum of species—from canines and felines to birds, reptiles, and pocket pets (e.g., rabbits, rodents, hedgehogs).Anesthesia Monitoring: Induce and monitor anesthesia, specifically tailoring protocols for delicate exotic patients which often have vastly different intubation and ventilation needs.Medication & Treatments: Administer fluids, vaccinations, and prescribed medications via specialized routes (e.g., intraosseous, subcutaneous, or oral).Diagnostics & Laboratory WorkImaging: Safely position animals for radiographs (X-rays) and ultrasounds, ensuring minimal stress for exotic patients.Lab Testing: Collect, process, and analyze samples including blood (phlebotomy), urine, feces, and skin scrapings.Client Education & AdministrationOwner Communication: Translate medical needs and post-operative i! nstructio ns for pet parents. Exotic pet care often requires justifying preventive care or advising on complex habitat/dietary needs.Clinic Operations: Assist with maintaining medical records, sterilizing surgical instruments, and keeping exam areas biosecure


Qualifications or Skills Required
.Qualifications & Essential SkillsCredentialing: Typically requires being a Licensed, Certified, or Registered Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, or RVT).Handling: Ability to safely and humanely handle, restrain, and calm animals, preventing stress and aggressive reactions.Species Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the unique anatomies, physiology, and husbandry needs of diverse exotic pets, birds, and reptiles.Adaptability: Comfort working in fast-paced environments and the emotional resilience needed for critical care and emergency settings.
