Discovery Day to showcase agriculture Friday, November 5, 2021

The second Aggie Discovery Day of autumn is Monday, Nov. 15 at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
“Prospective college students and their parents or friends who attend Discovery Day can learn a lot about the college, people and programs in just a few hours at our campus,” says Braden Johnson.
The second-year Aggie from Gering is majoring in livestock management. Johnson said he had two goals when he started his FFA program nearly six years ago at Bayard High School.

Time has flown by for all of us the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and here we are with six weeks of classes left in the semester before final exams.
Come November, it’s easy for students to lose focus with so many activities and demands on their time, and much harder to realign priorities if one tends to easily stray from the path of self-discipline.

Aggies season finale from Heartland Tuesday, November 2, 2021

Five members of the Shotgun Sports Team from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture competed over the weekend at Heartland Shooting Park west of Grand Island.
Aggie competitors were Cooper Mazza of Potter, Trey Barnhart of McCook, Kamren Sitzman of McCook, Kaden
Bryant of Firth, and Emily Miller of Norton, Kansas.
Coach Alan Taylor said overall, the team shot well in skeet and sporting clays. The final match of the fall season was Saturday and Sunday in the ACUI Upper Mid-West Championship.

Stock dog clinic is Nov. 12-14 in Curtis Monday, November 1, 2021

Stock dog owners are welcome to register themselves and their dogs for a spot in the 2021 Fall Herding Dog Clinic at NCTA.
The Aggie Stock Dog Team at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will host the clinic Nov. 12-14 on campus and at the indoor arena of the Livestock Teaching Center, said Leighlynn Obermiller, team coach.
Kent and Lori Herbel of the XP Ranch in Putnam, Oklahoma, conduct about 20 clinics per year. They have been training herding dogs to handle livestock in low-stress environments since 1999.

NCTA Career Fair is Thursday Friday, October 29, 2021

Agricultural industry employers plan for some engaging conversations in Curtis Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
The NCTA Career Fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Student Union, located near 404 E. 7th Street, said Kevin Martin, with NCTA Student Services.
Aggie students and attendees will have opportunity to visit with about 20 employment recruiters from agricultural businesses, animal health companies, and industries such as agronomy, livestock management and natural resources.

As you read my weekly Dean’s Message from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, hundreds of Nebraskans are headed to Indianapolis for the 94th Annual FFA Convention and Expo.
After sharing much of our educational and youth leadership activities by virtual methods over the past year, we are looking forward to a “hybrid” convention.
Preliminary competitions, officer interviews, team and individual projects were virtual. Finals are on site at the Oct. 27-30 convention.

Agricultural advocacy and industry influence will be among topics discussed in Curtis on Monday (Oct. 25) at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
“We Must Stand United” is the theme for the 6 p.m. free public forum by Trent Loos, a Nebraska ag producer who represents the Protect the Harvest, a national organization.
Loos has served on the PTHt Advisory Committee since May. He will present the group’s views on agriculture, land use, and the rural-versus-urban divide across the country.

Melody MacDonald and her classmates in veterinary technology are in their ninth week of the fall semester at NCTA (the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture).
They also are immersed in two weeks of acronyms celebrating their chosen profession. National Veterinary Technician Week is Oct. 17-23, which they will observe next week, as well.
A native of Fullerton, Nebraska, Melody is a third-year Aggie at NCTA, in veterinary technology with a large animal emphasis.

One may think our college courses at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture are primarily crops and cattle, horses and horticulture, or engines and equines.
That is our bread and butter so to speak.
Preparing students for successful careers in agriculture, veterinary technology, and related industries is emphasized in our mission statement.
