Agronomy students are Aggies of the Month Thursday, April 28, 2016
Two agronomy majors have been tapped as Aggies of the Month at the University of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
Ross Steward, Littleton, Colo., and Amelia Petska, Blue Hill, Neb., were selected by faculty and staff as NCTA Aggies for April, announced Ron Rosati, NCTA dean.
“Ross and Amelia bring enthusiasm and a passion to campus for learning about crop science and careers in agronomy,” said Rosati. “Each contributes greatly to their respective competition teams in crops judging and rodeo team, and are outstanding representatives of NCTA’s Class of 2016.”

Curtis, Neb. - Regents Scholarships to the University of Nebraska will be awarded to two graduating sophomores from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
Haley Rogers of Lexington and Calvin DeVries of Fairfield were notified this month they will earn the Regents awards for their junior and senior years of study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Rogers will study agriculture education with plans to be an agriculture teacher. DeVries plans to study animal science and go into veterinary medicine.

Curtis, Neb. - The Annual Plant Sale at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will be April 30 and May 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NCTA Greenhouse in Curtis.
The plant sale is conducted every year by the NCTA Horticulture Club and this year features coleus, peppers, tomatoes, irises, houseplants, and more.
“This is a great opportunity for the public to see the Horticulture facilities, and purchase a lot of unique plants at low prices, while supporting the Horticulture Team at the college,” said Tee Bush, horticulture professor.

Curtis, Neb. – With their upcoming graduation on May 5 from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, four graduates will each head home with a live breeding heifer in their stock trailer.
Bailey Hinrichs, Ayr; Raymond Fleer, Pierce; Wade Vallery, Plattsmouth; and Dalton Johnson, Gering, have each been selected for the Heifer Link award from NCTA.

Curtis, Neb. - Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts and University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds will deliver commencement addresses at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis on May 5.
Nearly 80 associate degrees and 1-year certificates will be conferred during the 1:30 p.m. ceremony, some to students in multiple majors or certifications.
The two-year college founded in 1965 specializes solely in agricultural areas of academics.
NU Regent Bob Phares of North Platte will bring greetings from the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Sweetwater, Texas – The NCTA Aggie Ranch Horse Team has placed fifth in weekend competition among Division II teams at the American Stock Horse Association (ASHA) Collegiate National Championship Show.
Five students competed and four served as support staff to the team from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.
The Aggie team is coached by Joanna Hergenreder, NCTA assistant professor of animal science and equine instructor. She also is serving her first year on the ASHA board of directors.

NCTA buckles up new tradition Wednesday, April 27, 2016
Curtis, Neb. – Aggie students from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis won’t be sporting class rings from their alma mater any time soon.
When these graduates leave campus after two years of academic studies and collegiate teamwork, they can head home wearing a western belt buckle engraved with their name, year, and major.
“Become the Tradition” was unveiled recently at the inaugural NCTA Buckle Ceremony for 28 students, faculty, staff and alumni who ordered a customized belt buckle.
The campus is starting a new tradition.

Crookston, Minn. – The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture took 21 students to a national contest in Minnesota last week and garnered awards for their two-year college in Curtis.
Aggie teams won national titles in crops judging and agricultural computers, with second place in the always competitive livestock judging contest. NCTA teams earned third places in agribusiness management and dairy judging, with fourth-place teams in ag sales, horse judging and livestock management.

Lincoln, Neb. - Lexus Kelsch of McLaughlin, S.D., recently won the collegiate barrel racing title for the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) at Curtis.
She won the short go-round and winning average on April 15-16 to put her atop the standings during the weekend contest hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Rodeo Association.
April 11-17 was deemed “Rodeo Week” in the state by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, and included a salute during the Friday evening performance at the Lancaster County Event Center.

Brookings, S.D. – NCTA Aggie students Tom Percival of Oxford, Neb., and Lexus Kelsch of McLaughlin, S.D., made it to final rounds in collegiate rodeo action over the weekend at South Dakota State University.
“Everyone competed very well in the spring opener,” said Bridger Chykta, rodeo coach at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. “The NCTA athletes executed fundamentals properly and were aggressive in their events.”
